Experiencing problems with motivating yourself to study? Have a big test next week but still not picking up your books yet? Does thinking about studying make you feel turned off?

If you feel this way, well at least you can take comfort in the fact that almost everyone has experienced this lack of study motivation. This is especially true a person has no interests at all in the subject that he or she is studying.

Fortunately, if you are able to combine determination and willpower with the study motivation tips below, you can easily get yourself motivated about studying.

1. Schedule time to study. Make sure that you schedule time to study. Don’t get into the habit of just studying only ‘when you feel like it’. Set your study schedule beforehand and make sure that you stick to it. Revolve all other activities around that schedule. Take your study time seriously and make it almost sacred. Nothing should interfere with it.

2. Get started with the 5 minute principle. The most difficult part in studying is getting started. The beginning is the toughest challenge. However, once you have got some momentum, things start to get easier and easier.

To make getting started easier, just intend to study seriously for 5 minutes. When you’re about to begin studying, you will naturally feel some apprehension and objection. However if you plan to study for just 5 minutes, it will seem much less painful and that makes it so much easier to get started.

What will happen is that after those 5 minutes of intense and serious studying, you would have already gained serious momentum and probably can’t stop yourself from studying. You will feel more compelled to continue studying rather than stop studying.

3. Stop and start at the fun part. When you have to stop for meals, baths, getting snacks/drinks, or for just for a short break, do it when you at the fun and interesting part of the subject. If the , you’ll feel more motivated to get back to the books after the break, and it makes getting started again easier.

4. Remove distractions from your surroundings. When you got the TV, phone, computer, bed, magazines etc nearby, you’ll be easily tempted to throw your books aside. Let’s face it, if the TV remote is right in front of you, you’re more likely to turn on the TV. If you can see your bed while studying, you’re just tempting yourself to take a nice long nap. Instead, as much as possible try to remove the possible distractions away from you. Study in a proper environment with the least distractions. Turn of your cell phone, hide the remote, turn off your computer etc.

5. Set Goals. Setting goals will give you more motivation. When there’s a target to aim at, we’ll be more determined rise up to the challenge and push ourselves to achieve it. The sense of satisfaction from the achievement is also a good confidence booster. In addition to that, it will cultivate a habit of studying.
