Many photographic memory books teach you how to improve your memory skills utilizing various techniques. Photographic memory is often confused with something called “eidetic memory.” With this type of memory, a person can study a picture for about 30 seconds and retain the visual image even when the picture itself is no longer there. Thus far, children have been found to have eidetic memory, but adults have not been found to have the skill in the same capacity.
Most books, which teach individuals about photographic memory and contain exercises to develop it, do not teach how to look at an image and “capture” it in their minds. They actually teach individuals how to use images, words, or music to store the information and act as a recall trigger. This is what is actually behind photographic memory.
There are different ways people train their memory, for example, most children memorized the alphabet by singing the alphabet song. The idea of setting the letter to music made it more fun to learn than simply through repetition.
Another useful way to train children to use their memories is through repetition and association. Photographic memory books teach adults the same skills they learned in school as a matter of course when they were children.
Different Books Teach Different Memory Habits
It’s been shown that people learn differently because they have different types of learning patterns. Similarly, people can learn to train their memories with different methods that utilize their particular strengths. Those who write photographic memory books talk about the techniques that have worked for them. Oftentimes, those who have the ability to use these retention skills and have not yet learned of them can also use them to improve their memories.
However, another person may not realize the same success and may find other photographic memory books, written from a different perspective to more beneficial. Unfortunately, there are no one size fits all photographic memory books that can supply the same level of help for everyone.
However, different techniques are used in different books that can teach people to train their memories. If you are someone who is interested in having the ability to instantly and totally recall something, then, you may need to read more than one book to find specific techniques that work for you.
If it’s important to you to learn to improve your memory, you’re not alone. Many people want to do this. Many companies have jumped on the bandwagon with various products that are purported to help you improve your memory, including those that utilize supplements and natural remedies, as well as photographic memory books to improve your memory. Because each of these methods are different, they may or may not work for you and therefore their impact may be positive or negative, depending on how they work for you. In most cases, if you utilize photographic memory books, you’ll need to adapt the techniques within to you, or find a particular tome that speaks to your strengths and weaknesses directly.
